This is a project for my ENH 295 Banned Books and Censorship class. For my solo project I did The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This book is on the American Library Association’s list of 10 most challenged list for 2010. The reason
this book is on the list is because of violence. I choose to read this book because it seemed really interesting to me.
About the Book:
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a book about a future society. The United States of America is no longer in existence and now there are 12 districts and the Capitol. In the history of this new society their used to be 13 districts but there was a revolt against the Capitol. During the revolt 1 of the districts number
13 was destroyed, and now the Capitol sponsors the hunger games every year
to remind all the other districts what happened to district 13 when they all tried to challenge the Capitol. In the hunger games each district draws 2 names 1 male and 1 female between the ages o 12 and 18 to take part in a deadly game for survival. In this deadly game the 24 tributes have to kill each in a remote arena designed by the Capitol and broadcasted so everyone has to watch. The only way out of the hunger games is to have the other 23 tributes die, which leaves you to be the sole survivor. This book is well written and is filled with moments of surprise, happiness, sadness, and even triumph, after all somebody has to win right? This book will have any reader engaged from the first page all the way to the last.
